From the Court to the Pour: Legacy, Leadership & the 1977 Carmel Greyhounds with Paul Hansel
On this episode of Basketball and Bourbon, Host Patrick Rady and NJCAA Hall of Famer Coach Joe Kuhn welcome a true Indiana basketball lifer—Paul Hansel. A starter on the 1977 Carmel Greyhounds state finalist team and former Marian College standout, Paul brings over four decades of perspective from both the court and the corporate world.
Now retired after a successful 42-year career in finance and serving as Clay Township Trustee, Paul stays deeply connected to the game through coaching youth in the Carmel Dad’s Club, helping run the Charlie Hughes Basketball Showcase, and working with the Carmel Basketball Academy.
We talk skill development in today’s youth game, whether it’s finally time for a high school shot clock, and the life lessons Paul carried from hoops into business. Plus, we take a nostalgic look at the bond of the ’77 Greyhounds and their annual reunions that keep the brotherhood alive.
And of course—we close with Paul’s Pour with a Player: his pick for a legendary bourbon, the player he’d share it with, and what he’d sip for his last shot.
